How to use Tool Tracer

  1. Pick the reference sheet size you'll photograph the tool on (a standard paper size, or Custom if you measure your own sheet/board). This is what the traced outline is scaled against, so it has to be accurate.
  2. Lay the tool flat on that sheet with clear space around it, then use the camera or choose a photo. Even, non-glary lighting works best.
  3. The sheet's corners are detected automatically - drag the corner handles if any of them aren't sitting exactly on the sheet's edges, then confirm.
  4. The tool's outline is traced automatically. Adjust Threshold (brightness cutoff) and Fit (how closely the outline follows the pixels) if it looks wrong; click an outline on the image to include/exclude it. Offset adds clearance around the shape (e.g. cutting tolerance).
  5. If the outline still looks wrong (shiny, dark, or low-contrast tools can trip up the automatic trace), click Refine with ML and tap the tool in the image for an AI-assisted outline instead.
  6. Auto-label tools suggests a name for each traced shape - it reads any size marking stamped on the tool where it can, and falls back to a guessed category (marked with "?") otherwise. Every label is editable.
  7. Save DXF or SVG to download the outline(s) - including any labels - ready for CNC routing or laser cutting.
